About Langbourn Ward
Langbourn is one of the 25 historic wards of the City of London. Its name comes from a “long borne” — a stream that once flowed through this part of the City. Today, Langbourn stretches from west to east across some of the Square Mile’s most recognisable streets, including Fenchurch Street, Lombard Street, and Gracechurch Street, and encompasses much of Leadenhall Market, one of London’s most distinctive retail and leisure landmarks.

At the Heart of the City
Langbourn sits in the very centre of the Square Mile, bordered by eight other wards. Its location and history make it an integral part of the City’s identity — a meeting point between old and new London, where centuries of trade and finance continue to evolve.
The Ward Today
Langbourn is a thriving commercial area that captures the energy and diversity of the modern City.
It is home to a broad mix of uses that reflect the character of the financial district:
- Business and finance: Headquarters and offices for global insurers, brokers, and professional firms.
- Retail and hospitality: Independent and well-known shops, cafés, restaurants, and pubs that keep the ward busy throughout the day.
- Leisure and community spaces: Historic courtyards, covered markets, and public areas offering places to meet, eat, and relax.
A Living Part of London’s Story
From its medieval origins to its role in the modern financial world, Langbourn remains a place of continuity and change. It represents the spirit of the City — entrepreneurial, resilient, and always forward-looking.
Whether you work here, visit for lunch, or simply pass through on your way to Leadenhall Market, Langbourn offers a snapshot of the City’s enduring life and character.
